A collective agreement is a written law contract covering workers grouped into a bargaining unit. The contract is concluded through collective bargaining between the union and the employer. The line of application to protect workers from unfair treatment, to have a collective agreement. It gives us a say in the workplace, allows us to improve our working conditions and provides us with a fair way to address and solve problems in the workplace. MacPherson was appointed in December 2018 to help the parties secure new collective agreements. It was required to communicate all outstanding issues on the basis of a set of guiding principles that reconcile the interests of both parties, such as the need to ensure the health and safety of workers and to ensure that workers receive equal pay for work of equal value. In 2003, CUPW successfully concluded the organization of approximately 6,000 Countries and Sub-Urban Mail Carriers (RSMC) in the Union and won a first collective agreement for these workers. This collective agreement is separate from the CUPW collective agreement. There are big differences between the two collective agreements.
These differences are due to the fact that CSRs were previously contractors and not employees of Canada Post. For example, in a contract system, CSRs are paid hourly, CSRs are generally expected to find their own replacement during absences, and CSMS can hire assistants who are not employed by Canada Post. It was also in 2003 that the first of many backtrackings of the Urban Postal Unit took place, when the contract concluded included the abolition of severance pay. Members ratified the urban mail operating agreement with 65.4% approval. Finally, I would like to thank each of the members. Your support and commitment every day has really made a difference – and that`s important. I am proud to be a member of this Union and this community of workers. The agreements between canada Post and its rural, urban and urban postal employees, represented by two separate bargaining units, are valid until December 31, 2021 and January 31, 2022. Looking ahead to 2019, I`m thinking about my first year at Canada Post.
I know that this great company has a strong future for Canadians. But to succeed, we must find new avenues of cooperation, listen to each other and be open to new solutions.
